“You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the present times.” — Matthew 16:3

Have you ever wondered why some seasons of life feel full of open doors while others seem filled with waiting, challenges, or uncertainty? One of the greatest gifts God gives His children is spiritual discernment—the ability to recognize what He is doing and respond with wisdom.

In Matthew 16:3, Jesus challenged the Pharisees and Sadducees because they could predict the weather but failed to recognize the spiritual season they were living in. They missed the Messiah standing before them because they focused on visible signs instead of God’s work.

The same lesson applies to us today.

Many believers ask God to change their circumstances when He is actually inviting them to understand their current season. Every season has a purpose. There are seasons of preparation, growth, waiting, healing, pruning, serving, and harvest. Each one requires a different response.

When we fail to discern the season we’re in, we can become discouraged, impatient, or even miss the opportunities God has placed before us. But when we seek the Holy Spirit for wisdom, we begin to recognize God’s timing and walk confidently in His plan.

Instead of praying only, “Lord, change my situation,” try praying, “Lord, help me understand what season i am living in and help me understand what You’re teaching me in this season - show me how to respond faithfully.”

There are seasons that is of the making of worldly wickedness in high places which must be tackled by taking up your authority in Jesus and fighting the spiritual warfare, if you do not ask for discernment you may think you are in a waiting season instead and you’ll wait in vain.

There are also seasons where you are your own problems and you need to work on yourself, change something or end some relationships etc If you do not have discernment you may never know and will handle it wrongly.

One thing to always remember is that God’s timing is always perfect. The more we grow in discernment, the more we can trust Him, obey Him, and experience His peace—regardless of the season we’re in.
